Sunset District may get new shuttles under proposal by Sup. Gordon Mar

The Sunset District may get an on-demand community shuttle soon — because currently, the neighborhood's selection of public transit routes is sparse. A Mobility Study for District 4 released last year by the San Francisco Transportation Authority suggested a short-distance shuttle should be explored as an option. Now, Supervisor Gordon Mar is proposing just that. The Supervisor wants an on-demand micro-transit program for Outer Sunset and Parkside.

Can S.F. police do more to stop crime before it happens? One supervisor pushes a prevention plan

San Francisco Supervisor Gordon Mar hopes to make each of the city’s 10 police districts work with the communities they serve to develop annual plans for preventing crime. Mar introduced legislation Tuesday that would require every San Francisco Police Department station to engage with local groups as they create community policing plans posted online.

Board Approves Mar’s Legislation Creating Chinese Cultural District

For months, community members, district supervisors and their aides, and other key stakeholders in the Sunset community have worked to establish the Sunset Chinese Cultural District. In late May, District 4 Supervisor Gordon Mar introduced legislation that proposed this new project. The legislation was passed with unanimous support from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on July 20.

City College to offer classes in the Sunset District

Tuition at City College has been free to San Francisco residents since 2017, this expansion is funded entirely by Supervisor Gordon Mar, whose district includes the Sunset. Mar said that he secured $150,000 from the District 4 discretionary budget to launch what he sees as a CCSF pilot program in the neighborhood.

First farmers market to open in Outer Sunset this weekend

A weekly farmers market is coming to the Outer Sunset this Sunday, the first of its kind in the residential neighborhood. Mar says that opening a market has been a goal of his since he assumed the role of district supervisor last year, but he thinks the idea has become more important as many neighborhood businesses have struggled during the pandemic.

SF Launches Vandalism Fund to Help Businesses Repair Broken Windows, Other Damage

San Francisco city officials on Wednesday announced the launching of a new grant program that aims to help small businesses recover from vandalism done to their storefronts… The program was put together by Breed's office, the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, and Supervisor Gordon Mar.
